Alzheimer’s Association of Central and Western Virginia

 

We provide education and support to all those facing Alzheimer’s and other dementias throughout our community, including those living with the disease, caregivers, health care professionals and families. We are also committed to advocating for the needs and rights of those facing Alzheimer’s disease and advancing critical research toward methods of treatment, prevention and ultimately, a cure.

Best Start Parenting Center

We provide classes trained by caring professionals, medical quality breast pumps to meet you and your baby’s needs, and support before and after your baby arrives from our International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, who is also a registered nurse. You want accurate, research-based, up to date information. When breastfeeding needs help, our support and medical quality breast pumps can save the day!

The Summit

The Parkinson’s Support Group will be on the 3rd Tuesday at 2 p.m. of each month. Here you can come to make friends with other people with Parkinson’s Disease and share your successes and frustrations in coping with PD.

Grief Support for Children

Motherhood Collective

The Motherhood Collective offers FREE year round programming to women from preconception to postpartum. This programming includes: 2 evidence-based education programs, 4 peer-to-peer support groups and 2 relationship fostering gatherings. They also offer group classes for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, adoption and foster care, playgroup, community classes, workshops. Also, a cafe which is for building connections with any and all mothers.

Surviving the Loss of a Spouse

Heritage United Methodist Church

The facilitators of this program have experienced the loss of a spouse and will offer emotional and spiritual support to those attending. The periods of crisis, recovery and going on with life will be shared and discussed. There is no fee or restriction as to length of time being widowed.

Substance Abuse: UP Foundation

UP Foundation offers an Alternative Peer Group, or APG, program which provides support groups for young people and their families dealing with the effects of substance abuse.
